| To call the following narrative a history
of Acocks Green Methodist church is both inaccurate and presumptuous. What
the writer hopes to do is to set the record straight on some matters
relating to the church history and wherever possible to go back to the
original sources when recounting some of the church's story. 'Original
sources' for the most part mean the old minute books of Quarterly, Leaders
and Trustees meetings which are now kept in the Local Studies Department of
Birmingham Central Reference Library. An attempt has been made to add some
local colour and detail by quoting from time to time from the writings of
local historians. A bibliography appears at the end of the narrative.
Distance in time leads to a more objective view of the challenges faced and
overcome by the Methodist society, the closer one comes to the present the
more difficult it is to record the facts and assess the personalities of
those involved.
To any future reader of this record I hope that it affords them some
interest, perhaps pleasure and possible amusement in a few places.
